As of the end of July, 2023, we were notified that Broward Health no longer requires the COVID vaccine as part of their clinical program.

BECOMING A FLORIDA PARAMEDIC
Deciding to enroll at the Coral Springs Regional Institute of Public Safety to pursue your dream of becoming a Firefighter/EMT/Paramedic in the State of Florida is a huge step. It can be an overwhelming journey if not planned out properly. To help you succeed we will provide information on a career path that may work best for you. We offer all the required courses that you will need in order to become a successful candidate for a position as a Firefighter in Florida. Most agencies located in southeast Florida (Broward, Dade & Palm Beach) will require candidates to be Firefighter/Paramedic certified as a minimum however other regions will hire Firefighter/EMT’s or just Firefighters. This means that you will need to complete EMT-Basic, EMT-Paramedic and Firefighter I&II and become licensed in all three courses which can be accomplished at CSRIPS.
FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW
PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY
Acceptance into the CSRIPS EMT-Paramedic program is a first come first serve process. Only students that have a fully completed application, including application fee, will proceed in the application process. If your application is not complete in any way, your application will not be reviewed and will not be accepted.
EXTERNSHIP INFORMATION
BACKGROUND CHECKS
Background checks are a hospital requirement for all clinical rotations and are not conducted until after acceptance into the program but prior to the scheduling of rotations. Should you have any arrests or convictions, please contact the office to discuss your situation.
The hospitals mandate that each student pass the same background check as hospital employees; a Level 2 background check.
- Level 1 generally refers to a state only name based check AND an employment history check.
- Level 2 generally refers to a state and national fingerprint based check and consideration of disqualifying offenses, and applies to those designated by law as holding positions of responsibility or trust. Typically, a Level 2 Background Check covers search of fingerprint-based information, national criminal history records, as well as county criminal records.
DRUG SCREENING
The 10 panel drug screening is also a hospital requirement for all clinical rotations and is not conducted until after acceptance into the program but prior to the scheduling of rotations. Should you have any questions about the drug screening process, please contact the office for more information.
MANDATORY EXTERNSHIP ORIENTATION
All NEW CSRIPS EMS* students are REQUIRED to attend the Mandatory Externship Orientation listed below. The CSRIPS Clinical Coordinator will cover information about COMPLIO and other course materials will be reviewed.
Paramedic Orientation – Winter term 2025 – TBA
*If you were previously a CSRIPS EMT student within the last 12 months and already have an established COMPLIO account, you do not need to attend.
APPLICATION PROCESS
The expandable sections below are important! Each one lays out information for you to help prepare for not only the class but also for the application process. Be sure you read each step carefully. Be advised that some steps may take longer to prepare for.
Open House has not only returned but now offers 2 options! You may attend either the in-person Open House or the virtual option. Each one has it’s benefits and you get to select which one is best for you. Please refer the home page for details.
Students must upload, at time of Step 2 application submission, either:
- a BLS Healthcare Provider Certificate from CSRIPS
OR
- proof of registration in a CSRIPS BLS Healthcare Provider class.
Should the student not upload proof of registration or completion, their application will be considered “incomplete” and the student will be withdrawn from the application process.
Cards from other organizations will not be accepted.
If you currently have a BLS Healthcare Provider card from CSRIPS and it expires during the Paramedic class, you have 2 options.
- If the card expires during the first 4 months of class, please register for a CSRIPS BLS Healthcare Provider class prior to your Paramedic class beginning.
- If the card expires after the first 4 months, you will need to register and successfully complete a CSRIPS BLS Healthcare Provider class prior to your card expiring.
In order for your application to be submitted for review, you must complete all of the required information and upload during the application enrollment period. This is a first come first serve process so in order to increase your chances of being accepted, you are strongly encouraged to have all information ready when you begin your application. Below is everything you will need to have on hand for the application. You will need to have a PDF or picture for certain file uploads.

Upload pages 1 through 4 of the completed form into the application. If your submission is accepted, you will then need to follow further instructions to upload page 5 and any related vaccination documentation to your Complio account. Please review the Special Requirements outlined in the Program Catalog and Student Reference Guide. The Physical History & Exam form must be completed within 6 months of the first day of class to be accepted during registration.
CSRIPS implements a Point-based selection system designed to assist in determining which applicants will be admitted into the EMT-Basic, Paramedic or Firefighter I&II (limited access) Programs. Our goal is to select applicants that will have the best opportunity to successfully complete our Programs and achieve Industry Certification/Employment.
If there are more qualified applicants than seats available in the current class offering, those applicants that are not initially selected will remain on the list as an “alternate” and will only be used to fill the remaining spots in the event one becomes available before the start of the Program. Once the Program starts, the remaining applicants will have to reapply for future class offerings, we DO NOT form “wait-lists” for future class offerings.
Information considered for review:
- Highest level of education completed (transcript or diploma required)
- Member in Good Standing of a Fire Explorer Program (letter required)
- Certificate of Completion from a CSRIPS EMT, Paramedic or Firefighter I&II Program (documentation required)

The application process is a 2 step process.
- Step 1 – Basic student information along with payment of the application fee.
- You will receive an email within 24 hours with instructions for completing Step 2 within your MyCSRIPS student portal. You are required to complete Step 2 within 24 hours.

Once Step 2 has been completed, the student’s application is considered complete and will be reviewed for consideration.
Email is the primary means of communication. It is the students responsibility to check email daily. We will not track you down. If the assignments or tasks listed below do not get completed by the assigned date, you will be dismissed from the class.

Should a student be accepted into Paramedic, an email notification will be received welcoming the student and providing instructions for the next steps. The student will be provided information for books, Complio, Day 1 expectations, dress code, rides and clinicals.
Some of these items will have due dates. It is extremely important the student review the information and plan their time accordingly. Any item not completed by the due date will result in the student being dismissed from class.
The Broward Health system is contracting American Data Bank with their Complio system to validate hospital requirements. Given that, items that were required in the CSRIPS EMT-Paramedic application are now part of course pre-work. Once accepted to the program, you will receive instructions on how to register with the Complio system. This information will be a requirement for the hospital. If it is not completed, you will not be able to complete your clinical rotations and will not graduate from the program. This information will include;
- Medical Insurance Card
- Flu Vaccine (October 1 – March 31)
- Immunization Information
- Drug Screening
- Level 2 Background Check
