Frequently Asked Questions

These are the frequently asked questions the staff at CSRIPS receives in regards to veterans benefits.

What will the VA pay for?

The VA will pay for any one of the 3 major programs; Firefighter I & II, EMT-Basic, EMT-Paramedic.

Will the VA pay for my continuing education classes?

No.  The VA will only pay for the 3 major programs; Firefighter I & II, EMT-Basic, and EMT-Paramedic.

What do I do after I apply for VA benefits on va.gov?

Print a copy of the confirmation page that shows your confirmation number and upload it during the application process.

What is the deadline to apply for VA Educational Benefits?

Once you have identified where you are going to school, you should apply for your VA benefits.

How much money will I receive for my enrollment & why am I not getting a housing allowance?

CSRIPS Programs are measured in clock hours. The Department of Veteran Affairs designates CSRIPS programs as full-time at 22 hours per week.

 

For Firefighter I&II:

  • The Fulltime Day class meets 40 hours per week (fulltime student)
  • Part-Time Accelerated Class meets 23 hours per week (fulltime student)
  • Part-Time Regular Class meets 18 hours per week (3/4-time student)

 

EMT-Basic courses will begin less than full-time until students begin their externship, generally 4-6 weeks into their course.

  • Day Class – 16 hours per week (3/4-time Student); with externships hours (fulltime student)
  • Night Class(T, W, TH) – 12 hours per week (1/2-time student); with externships hours (3/4-time student)
  • Night Class(T, TH) – 10 hours per week (less than 1/2-time student); with externships hours (1/2-time student)

EMT-Paramedic courses will begin less than fulltime until students begin their externship generally 5-8 weeks into their course.

  • Day Class – 9 hours per week (less than 1/2-time student); with externships hours (3/4-time student)
  • Night Class – 12 hours per week (1/2-time student); with externships hours (fulltime student)

If I fail/withdraw from a class, do I have to pay the VA money back?

If CSRIPS incurs a debt from your withdrawal, CSRIPS will submit payment to the VA.
The financial obligations will be transferred to the student to pay and a financial hold will be placed on your account.
